Thousands of police were deployed in both countries on the eve of the three-day summit, which will start in the resort town of \u00c9vian-les-Bains. Only seven of the thirty-five border crossings between France and Switzerland will remain open.<\/p>\n
Authorities closed roads, banned unsanctioned gatherings, and pledged support for businesses that may suffer losses from the unrest. Dozens of businesses and shops boarded up their windows with wooden panels, fearing damage \u2013 as was the case during the Evian summit in 2003.<\/p>\n
