Toward the end of the day, after a series of incidents, protesters were ordered to disperse. According to Geneva Police spokesman Alexandre Braye, about 20,000 people took part in the demonstration.<\/p>\n<p>Security measures and consequences<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of police were deployed in both countries on the eve of the three-day summit, which will start in the resort town of \u00c9vian-les-Bains. Only seven of the thirty-five border crossings between France and Switzerland will remain open.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities closed roads, banned unsanctioned gatherings, and pledged support for businesses that may suffer losses from the unrest.
