Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday announced that the signing ceremony of a peace agreement between Iran and the United States would be held in Geneva on June 19 under Pakistan\u2019s hosting, describing the development as a historic achievement for global peace.<\/p>\n
Addressing the National Assembly, the prime minister said that \u201cthe sun of peace has risen\u201d after a prolonged period of conflict, adding that Iran and the United States had agreed to permanently end hostilities on all fronts following what he termed \u201cthree months and 16 days of intense trials\u201d.<\/p>\n
He said the formal signing ceremony of the agreement would take place in Geneva on June 19, with Pakistan serving as host for the event.<\/p>\n
Congratulating the nation and the international community, Mr Sharif termed the accord a major diplomatic success and praised all political stakeholders for their support.<\/p>\n
The prime minister expressed gratitude to PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, saying their backing had contributed to the success of the peace efforts.<\/p>\n
He also congratulated US President Donald Trump, Iranian Supreme Leader Mujtaba Khamenei and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, while commending the negotiating teams from both sides for demonstrating patience, wisdom and commitment during the talks.<\/p>\n
Mr Sharif acknowledged the contributions of several regional and international leaders, including Qatar\u2019s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Chinese President Xi Jinping, for supporting the peace process.<\/p>\n
The premier further highlighted the role of Field Marshal Asim Munir, saying his efforts to ease tensions and promote dialogue had been significant throughout the process.<\/p>\n
