{"id":85926,"date":"2026-06-17T10:35:10","date_gmt":"2026-06-17T10:35:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/85926\/"},"modified":"2026-06-17T10:35:10","modified_gmt":"2026-06-17T10:35:10","slug":"uber-and-weride-to-launch-robotaxis-in-zurich","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/85926\/","title":{"rendered":"Uber and WeRide to launch robotaxis in Zurich"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chinese autonomous driving company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weride.ai\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WeRide<\/a> and ride-hailing giant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uber.com\/gb\/en\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Uber<\/a> are to launch robotaxi services in Greater Zurich this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The announcement comes two weeks after the partners unveiled plans <a href=\"https:\/\/zagdaily.com\/connected\/weride-and-uber-to-launch-spains-first-robotaxis\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">to launch in Madrid<\/a>, making Zurich their second confirmed European deployment and the latest step in a broader agreement to roll out autonomous ride-hailing services across 15 cities worldwide.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Passengers will be able to book WeRide\u2019s robotaxis through the Uber app though a specific launch date has not been disclosed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sarfraz Maredia, Global Head of Autonomous Mobility and Delivery at Uber, called Switzerland a \u201ckey market\u201d for autonomous mobility which combines \u201cforward-thinking regulation with a demand for high-quality ride-hailing solutions\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The nation has already proven an appealing launchpad for autonomous vehicles. Zurich Airport became <a href=\"https:\/\/zagdaily.com\/micromobility\/one-of-europes-first-autonomous-airport-shuttles-to-land-in-zurich\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">one of the first in Europe<\/a> to launch an autonomous bus shuttle service which was also developed by WeRide. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last November, WeRide secured a driverless permit from Switzerland\u2019s Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) which enables its robotaxi to operate on public roads in Zurich\u2019s Furttal region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile in eastern Switzerland, public transport operator <a href=\"https:\/\/zagdaily.com\/connected\/switzerland-brings-autonomous-ride-hailing-to-rural-regions\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">PostBus recently partnered with Chinese technology giant Baidu<\/a> to roll out an autonomous mobility service in the nation\u2019s rural regions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fleet operations for the WeRide-Uber robotaxi service in Zurich will be managed by local logistics company <a href=\"https:\/\/rydera.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rydera<\/a>. The partners plan to scale the fleet as regulatory approvals are secured and operational milestones are met including the transition to fully driverless commercial services in core urban areas.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Zurich becomes the fifth city publicly confirmed under the WeRide-Uber partnership which aims to deploy tens of thousands of autonomous vehicles globally by 2030.
