{"id":87393,"date":"2026-06-19T02:55:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-19T02:55:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/87393\/"},"modified":"2026-06-19T02:55:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-19T02:55:09","slug":"vance-postpones-trip-to-switzerland-for-iran-talks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/87393\/","title":{"rendered":"Vance postpones trip to Switzerland for Iran talks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Vice President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/jd-vance\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"7658\">JD Vance<\/a> postponed his trip to <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/switzerland\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"3465\">Switzerland<\/a> at the last minute on Thursday before he was supposed to travel abroad to take the next step in the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/iran\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"100\">Iran<\/a> talks.<\/p>\n<p>Vance was initially set to sign the memorandum of understanding that President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"4\">Donald Trump<\/a> signed in <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/france\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"387\">France<\/a> on Wednesday, but that plan is now up in the air. The <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/white-house\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"8767\">White House<\/a> blamed logistical issues for postponing the intercontinental flight to Geneva.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the Vice President said at his press conference, the plans for the upcoming technical talks have not been finalized, and the U.S. delegation has been prepared to depart at the first available opportunity,\u201d a White House spokesperson said. \u201cBut the logistics of these negotiations have never been simple or predictable. As of now the Vice President is not departing tonight. We will let you know as soon as we have a concrete update about next steps. We look forward to beginning technical talks as soon as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The statement was made as reporters expected to see Vance at Joint Base Andrews in <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/maryland\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"49\">Maryland<\/a> before his scheduled departure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier in the day, Vance said the U.S.-Iran meeting may take more time to organize because it\u2019s difficult for Iranian officials to leave their country following the war. The vice president noted the trip could still take place over the weekend, but the meeting is not finalized yet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 14-point MOU started 60 days of talks on Iran\u2019s nuclear program and other disputes, with the clock starting on Wednesday after Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed the deal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4614647\/jd-vance-tells-gop-critics-iran-deal-trust-process\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4614647\/jd-vance-tells-gop-critics-iran-deal-trust-process\/\">\u2018HAVE A LITTLE FAITH\u2019: VANCE TELLS REPUBLICAN CRITICS OF IRAN DEAL TO TRUST THE PROCESS<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vance defended the deal reached this week against Republican critics, telling them to trust the administration\u2019s process.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019ve seen skeptics of the deal,\u201d he said at the press conference. \u201cPeople say the Iranians will never change their behavior. Maybe that\u2019s true, and if so, they don\u2019t get any of the benefits of the bargain.
