This could complicate talks in which both sides seek to advance an <a data-testid=\"Link\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/g7-leaders-demand-ceasefire-lebanon-welcome-iran-deal-2026-06-17\/\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__inherit-color__PhuPF text-module__inherit-font__1P1hv text-module__inherit-size__EyiQW link-module__link__INqxZ link-module__underline_default__-okuC\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">interim deal<\/a> brokered by Pakistan and signed on Wednesday by U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to end \u200btheir almost <a data-testid=\"Link\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/iran\/\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__inherit-color__PhuPF text-module__inherit-font__1P1hv text-module__inherit-size__EyiQW link-module__link__INqxZ link-module__underline_default__-okuC\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">four-month war<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The IRGC warned ships would be at risk if they approached the waterway, a vital conduit for global oil and gas supplies. Iran cited what it called Israeli &#8220;crimes&#8221; in Lebanon and \u200ba U.S. violation of commitments to establish a ceasefire.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Central Command said 55 merchant ships had transited the strait on Saturday, moving large amounts of cargo and \u2060more than 17 million barrels of oil to global markets, and that U.S. forces would ensure the flow of ships continued.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. President Donald Trump in a social media post on Saturday wrote that no toll \u200bwill be charged for passage through the Strait during or after the 60-day ceasefire \u2014 unless the U.S. imposes one should peace talks fail.<\/p>\n<p>Trump left open the possibility of a Hormuz toll levied by the United States &#8220;for services \u200brendered as the Guardian Angel to the countries of the Middle East&#8221; if a peace deal is not completed.<\/p>\n<p>Mohammad Mokhber, an adviser to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, accused the U.S. on X of failing to implement the first clause of its <a data-testid=\"Link\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/14-point-draft-us-iran-deal-2026-06-17\/\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__inherit-color__PhuPF text-module__inherit-font__1P1hv text-module__inherit-size__EyiQW link-module__link__INqxZ link-module__underline_default__-okuC\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">14-point interim deal<\/a> with Iran, which includes a ceasefire &#8220;on all fronts&#8221;, including Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p>He said that, as long as the agreement was only on paper, the flow of Middle East energy would remain halted.<\/p>\n<p>The Lebanon truce appeared fragile as Israeli forces and \u200bthe Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah attacked each other.<\/p>\n<p>MOMENTUM BUILDS FOR U.S.-IRAN TALKS IN SWITZERLAND<\/p>\n<p>Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Iran would press in Switzerland for fulfilment of commitments, citing past failures by the other side \u200bto honour agreements.<\/p>\n<p>Vance, in an interview with Fox News, said he was confident the ceasefire agreed in Washington&#8217;s 14-point deal with Tehran would hold, and that he had seen no evidence that the strait was closed.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. vice president \u200cleft for Switzerland \u2060shortly after 4 p.m. ET (2100 GMT) on Saturday. We got \u200bkind of excited by those statements about a ceasefire, but everything is continuing as usual,&#8221; said Ofri Valfer, a resident of \u200bnorthern Israel.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You can hear very loud blasts here, and life goes on alongside that.
