{"id":93889,"date":"2026-06-29T08:37:16","date_gmt":"2026-06-29T08:37:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/93889\/"},"modified":"2026-06-29T08:37:16","modified_gmt":"2026-06-29T08:37:16","slug":"watchdog-finma-builds-generative-ai-to-police-crypto-markets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/93889\/","title":{"rendered":"Watchdog FINMA Builds Generative AI to Police Crypto Markets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Financial regulators must adopt artificial intelligence tools to counter those already being used in cyberattacks, <a href=\"https:\/\/ch.linkedin.com\/in\/marlene-amstad?trk=public_post-text\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Marlene Amstad<\/a>, chair of the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.finma.ch\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">FINMA<\/a>) and chair of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iosco.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">International Organization of Securities Commissions<\/a> (IOSCO), told Reuters in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/finance\/financial-regulators-scramble-counter-ai-rise-with-own-tools-2026-06-26\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">report<\/a> posted Friday (June 26).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amstad spoke with Reuters after a hackathon in which about 100 policy and technology specialists worked together to build tools for supervising crypto markets, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FINMA helped create a forum within IOSCO that encourages global financial market regulators to adopt AI, per the report.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAs hackers move faster, banks must adapt by patching vulnerabilities more rapidly,\u201d Amstad said in the report.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An IOSCO committee chaired by Amstad, the SupTech Forum, which focuses on supervisory technology (SupTech), developed a report released June 18 that found that AI is an increasingly important tool for supervision and regulatory oversight, IOSCO said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/international-organization-of-securities-commissions-iosco-_new-publication-iosco-published-today-activity-7473359351446016001-bHYL?utm_medium=ios_app&amp;rcm=ACoAAAat3SMBEgADfNlTqwJlqeMPwRjBZGD_D84&amp;utm_source=social_share_send&amp;utm_campaign=mail\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">post<\/a> on LinkedIn.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The organization said in a June 18 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iosco.org\/news\/pdf\/IOSCONEWS800.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">press release<\/a> that the report, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iosco.org\/library\/pubdocs\/pdf\/IOSCOPD826.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SupTech: Mapping the Use of Technology in Financial Supervision<\/a>,\u201d found that authorities are using technology for consumer and investor protection, capital markets supervision and new domains such as digital assets.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAuthorities are increasingly seeking to integrate SupTech into core supervisory functions,\u201d IOSCO said in the release. \u201cArtificial intelligence, data access and cloud infrastructure are seen as critical enablers, with efficiency, timeliness of information reception and analysis, and improved capabilities driving adoption.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finma.ch\/en\/documentation\/finma-publications\/addresses-and-specialist-articles\/referate-folder\/20260623-amme-pzf\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">speech<\/a> delivered Tuesday (June 23) at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pointzeroforum.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Point Zero Forum<\/a> in Zurich, Amstad said the IOSCO report showed that \u201cAI can transform the very way we process data, derive insights and reach decisions. That goes to the heart of how we do our work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The technology\u2019s use cases include automated document analysis, market abuse investigations, sentiment analysis and crypto exposure monitoring, Amstad said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FINMA is developing a generative AI tool that scans the documents supervisors must read before conducting an on-site inspection and flags anomalies that are worth a closer look.
