ABB is expanding its marine automation portfolio through the acquisition of Norwegian specialist H\u00f8glund, adding integrated vessel control technology used on more than 600 ships to strengthen digitalisation, operational efficiency and supply chain resilience across the maritime sector.<\/p>\n

ABB has agreed to acquire Norwegian marine automation specialist H\u00f8glund AS in a move that strengthens its digital automation offering for the global shipping industry and supports more efficient, connected vessel operations.<\/p>\n

The acquisition, expected to complete in the third quarter of 2026 subject to regulatory approvals, will see H\u00f8glund integrated into ABB\u2019s Marine & Ports division. The deal includes the company\u2019s operations in Norway, Poland, Romania and China, together with its workforce of more than 80 employees. Financial terms were not disclosed.<\/p>\n

H\u00f8glund\u2019s Integrated Automation System (IAS) is already installed on more than 600 vessels worldwide. Built on ABB\u2019s 800M and S800 control platform, the system integrates automation, monitoring and control across onboard operations, bringing together data from engines, power generation and cargo systems to improve operational visibility, energy efficiency and vessel performance.<\/p>\n

For shipping operators, integrated automation plays an increasingly important role in reducing operational complexity, improving asset utilisation and supporting more resilient global supply chains.<\/p>\n

H\u00f8glund generated revenues of approximately \u20ac30 million in 2025.<\/p>\n

Following completion of the acquisition, ABB says customers will benefit from its global service network alongside H\u00f8glund\u2019s specialist automation expertise, providing broader support for fleet operators as they modernise vessel operations.<\/p>\n
