{"id":94434,"date":"2026-06-30T07:51:23","date_gmt":"2026-06-30T07:51:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/94434\/"},"modified":"2026-06-30T07:51:23","modified_gmt":"2026-06-30T07:51:23","slug":"roche-unveils-the-axelios-gene-sequencer-to-compete-with-illumina-etpharma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/94434\/","title":{"rendered":"Roche Unveils the Axelios Gene Sequencer to Compete with Illumina, ETPharma"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                                        <img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"590\" height=\"442\" class=\"unveil\" loading=\"eager\" style=\"width:100%;max-height:100%\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/132068340.cms.jpeg\" captionrendered=\"1\" alt=\"\"\/>London: Swiss pharma and diagnostics giant Roche on Monday launched its long-awaited Axelios gene sequencer, in a bid to challenge U.S. firm <a id=\"32071351\" type=\"Denny\" weightage=\"20\" keywordseo=\"Illumina\" source=\"keywords\" meta.keywordsubtype=\"org\" meta.entityname=\"Illumina\" meta.hostid=\"266\" class=\"news-keywords\" href=\"https:\/\/pharma.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/illumina\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Illumina<\/a>&#8216;s leadership in <a id=\"29337139\" type=\"Denny\" weightage=\"20\" keywordseo=\"next-generation-sequencing\" source=\"keywords\" class=\"news-keywords\" href=\"https:\/\/pharma.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/next-generation+sequencing\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">next-generation sequencing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Roche&#8217;s launch is limited to academic and research-focused facilities \u200cand comes \u2060more \u2060than a decade after the group&#8217;s failed $6.8 billion hostile bid \u200bto acquire Illumina.<\/p>\n<p>The Axelios platform is designed to rapidly read \u200band analyse DNA at scale, supporting applications from disease research to drug development.<\/p>\n<p>Analysts say Roche&#8217;s entry is likely \u200bto be a gradual push for \u2060market share \u200crather than a rapid disruption \u200bof the \u200bsector, which is valued at about $7.3 billion. \u2060Illumina remains the clear leader, with estimates putting \u200bits share of NGS systems at around 70%.<\/p>\n<p>Roche \u200bsaid it aims to place about 100 machines in the first year, a target that will lay the foundation for a future &#8220;blockbuster&#8221; franchise generating over 1 billion Swiss francs ($1.1 billion) in \u200cannual sales over the long term.<\/p>\n<p>The company has partnered with 10x Genomics and Google \u200bDeepVariant for \u200bdata analysis, backed \u2060by early platform validation from Broad Clinical Labs and the Hartwig Medical Foundation to ease adoption.<\/p>\n<p>Roche said it has \u200balready begun commercial shipments and booked pre-orders.
