Don&#8221; Harvey, of Bern, KS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t&#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<\/p>\n<p class=\"byline\">&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t\tPosted July 05, 2026 08:33am &#13;<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tby &#13;<br \/>\n\t\t\tPopkess Mortuary in Sabetha&#13;\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n        &#13;<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t\tDonald (Don) Edward Harvey, 80, of Bern, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nDon was born on November 3, 1945, in Nortonville, Kansas, to Edgar and Mildred (Kline) Harvey.\u00a0 At a young age, Don was trained as a blacksmith by his father, which led him into a career in welding and building machine parts of all kinds.\u00a0 On March 5, 1967, Don married Donna Blunt in Hiawatha, Kansas, and they shared 59 \u00bd years of marriage and were blessed with four children.\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nDon\u2019s welding and machine-building skills enabled him to secure positions at both Brockhoff Manufacturing and Wenger Manufacturing in Sabetha, Kansas.\u00a0 He worked at Wenger Manufacturing for 35 years before retiring.\u00a0 Don was also well known for his participation in the annual Albany Days celebration, where he worked at the Albany Sawmill and demonstrated its operation to patrons for the past 41 years.\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nDon\u2019s other hobbies included fishing, restoring tractors, and generally being outdoors.\u00a0 However, when he had to be cooped up in the house, he was often found watching his favorite television show, Gunsmoke.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nDon was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Mark Harvey; his granddaughter, Tylar Blankship; and his two sisters, Kay Harvey and Doris Feek.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nDon is survived by his wife, Donna, at their home in Bern; his daughter, Peggy Harvey of Bern; his two sons, Paul (Pam) Harvey of Sabetha, and Scott (Bridget) Harvey of Fairview, Kansas; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; his two sisters, Janet Reid of Carbondale, Kansas and Lois Kanaly of Hiawatha, Kansas; and his brother, Richard Harvey of Emporia, Kansas.\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nFuneral service will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha.\u00a0 Prior to the funeral service, a visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the mortuary.\u00a0 Interment will be made in the Hiawatha Cemetery in Hiawatha, Kansas.\u00a0 Memorial contributions are suggested to a fund yet to be designated by the family, and may be sent in care of Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia Street, Sabetha, Kansas 66534.\u00a0 Condolences can be shared online at www.popkessmortuaries.com.\t\t<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n            &#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<br \/>\n        &#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<br \/>\n            &#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"&#13;
