May 13 (Reuters) – Zurich Insurance (ZURN.S), opens new tab<\/a> reported higher first-quarter gross written premiums \u200bfor its property and casualty business on Wednesday, as the Swiss \u200ccompany benefited from rising investment in data centers, sending its shares up 4%.<\/p>\n

Data centers have mushroomed in the past few years as companies invest heavily in building their artificial intelligence \u200binfrastructure.<\/p>\n

Zurich Insurance, Europe’s second-largest insurer by market value, reported gross written \u200bpremiums for its property and casualty business, its largest segment, \u2060of $15.6 billion for the January-March period, up 8% on a like-for-like basis.<\/p>\n

Zurich \u200bInsurance’s stock was up as much as 4.2% at 0800 GMT, and climbed \u200bto the top of Switzerland’s blue-chip index (.SSMI), opens new tab<\/a> as well as the pan-European STOXX sub-index for insurers (.SXIP), opens new tab<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The group is on track to reach or exceed its 2027 targets, Chief Financial \u200bOfficer Claudia Cordioli said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Zurich Insurance said it aimed for \u200ba core return on equity of more than 23% between 2025 and 2027, and for \u200ccumulative \u2060cash generation, exceeding $19 billion during the same period.<\/p>\n

The group’s results echoed those of its French peer, Axa (AXAF.PA), opens new tab<\/a> and Munich-based Allianz (ALVG.DE), opens new tab<\/a>, with both reporting higher revenue for their property and casualty segments.Zurich Insurance said it expects no material impact on \u200bits performance from the Middle \u200bEast conflict<\/a>.STILL \u2060LOOKING AT OPTIONS FOR GERMANY LIFE PORTFOLIO<\/p>\n

Zurich Insurance said it was still reviewing options for its German life insurance \u200bportfolio, including a potential sale.<\/p>\n

“This is a book that we’ve \u200bbeen looking \u2060to sell over the last few years because of the interest rate tail risk that it poses,” Cordioli said in a post-earnings management call.<\/p>\n

Zurich Insurance has \u2060been \u200btalking with potential acquirers, but the company does \u200bnot rule out keeping the business, as balance-sheet risks have fallen, she added.<\/p>\n
