Rivals <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/tencent?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Tencent Holdings<\/a> and <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/meituan?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Meituan<\/a> saw their shares grow 3.8 and 3.3 per cent, respectively, while the Hang Seng Tech Index increased by nearly 5 per cent.Total revenue for the June quarter was expected to rise by 9 per cent, according to reports by both Jefferies and <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/ubs-group-ag?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">UBS<\/a> on Wednesday. That would mark a sharp improvement from the 3 per cent revenue growth recorded in the previous quarter.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Alibaba, which owns the South China Morning Post, typically releases its June quarter results in August.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">In a research note on Wednesday, UBS cited margin improvements in Alibaba\u2019s core e-commerce operations, narrowing losses in the food delivery business and accelerating cloud growth with improving margins as reasons the market was unlikely to cut the earnings forecast for the quarter.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cWith that, the market is likely to refocus on its valuable AI assets and AI growth angle,\u201d UBS analysts led by Kenneth Fong said in the note.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The bank expected Alibaba\u2019s cloud unit to enjoy 45 per cent revenue growth in the June quarter, while the annual recurring revenue (ARR) of its AI model services was projected to reach 10 billion yuan (US$1.5 billion).
