According to the Kremlin, Tehran’s position was conveyed by Russian President Vladimir Putin during his phone call with his American counterpart Donald Trump on the evening of October 9-10.
The agency did not disclose Trump’s response, nor did it elaborate on Iran ‘s position, according to AFP.
On the same day, October 10, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian declared that the Iranian people “are not afraid of the threats of the enemy.”
According to Al Jazeera, Pezeshkian affirmed that he and his companions would “continue to serve the proud Iranian people of our heroic country.”
Despite increasing economic pressure from Washington, Tehran insists it will not compromise on the conditions for ending the conflict.
Diplomatic efforts to end the conflict in Iran, which has lasted more than seven months, have been stalled since the summer .
Earlier this week, Putin met with Pezeshkian on the sidelines of a summit in Turkmenistan. There, the Russian leader expressed his desire to help mediate the conflict.
The US and Iran reached a memorandum of understanding in June outlining a framework to end the conflict, but tensions in the Strait of Hormuz have only lasted a short time before escalating.
Recent indirect talks between Washington and Tehran on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly have failed to produce any breakthrough.
In its latest peace proposal, submitted last month, the Iranian government demanded a region-wide ceasefire, the release of frozen Iranian assets, the lifting of sanctions on its oil exports, and an end to the US naval blockade.
In return, Tehran announced it would reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days. However, Trump rejected this proposal.
