Our voters did show up,” Vance wrote, recalling a conversation with a data analyst who had warned him that strong turnout did not necessarily translate into votes for Republicans.

According to Vance, the analyst had pointed out that many Trump-Vance supporters from the 2024 presidential election were unhappy and intended to vote for Democrats.

He cited Florida as an example, saying the electorate was nine percentage points more Republican than Democrat, only slightly below the margin recorded in 2024.

“The main problem is not turnout. The main problem is that many people who voted for Trump/Vance in 2024 voted for Democrats in 2026,” he said.

Vance acknowledged that the administration’s economic messaging might have contributed to the losses but argued that dissatisfaction over the war was the central issue.

He said a pollster whose predictions accurately reflected the election outcome had identified four major reasons former Trump supporters were considering abandoning the Republican Party.

The reasons were “End the war”, “Focus on cost of living/inflation”, “Put America First” and “Change our relationship to Israel”.

“Our voters showed up. And the above four reasons are why many of them voted for Democrats,” Vance said.

He also defended Rachel Campos Duffy, who had called for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict, saying her position had been met with criticism from some Republicans before the election.

“While many spent Monday attacking Rachel Campos Duffy for calling for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict, it turns out her political advice was sound,” he wrote.

Vance further warned against attempts by Republican establishment figures to attribute the party’s losses to immigration policy, particularly calls for amnesty.

He said he was open to changes in immigration enforcement, including targeting businesses that employ undocumented workers, but rejected amnesty as a solution to the party’s electoral challenges.

“The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night,” Vance declared.

He challenged Republicans who believed the position on the war was worth the electoral consequences to defend that argument openly.

“If you’d like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so. Argue it was a worthwhile cost to pay. Agree or disagree, that’s at least honest,” he added.

Despite the setback, Vance expressed optimism about the country’s political future, urging dissatisfied Republican supporters to channel their frustration into electing candidates who share their positions.

He also acknowledged those who had previously warned the party about the consequences of its policies.

“To the people who are pissed off and want to say, ‘I told you so’: you’re right, you did tell us so,” he wrote.

Vance’s remarks amount to a rare public acknowledgement from a senior Trump administration figure that dissatisfaction with the president’s foreign policy, particularly the war and US relations with Israel, contributed to Republican losses.

Faridah Abdulkadiri

Follow us on:

US Vice President JD Vance has blamed the war for the Republican Party’s poor performance in the 2026…

[6
32,2181,511
post-68601","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-iran-middle-east","tag-iran","tag-iran-u-s-conflict","tag-u-s
["GET
