N\u00e1zev byl zvolen proto, aby zd\u016fraznil schopnost observato\u0159e extr\u00e9mn\u011b rychle (b\u011bhem n\u011bkolika sekund) autonomn\u011b zm\u011bnit orientaci v\u00a0prostoru a\u00a0zam\u00ed\u0159it sv\u00e9 p\u0159\u00edstroje na nov\u011b detekovan\u00fd gama z\u00e1blesk. Observato\u0159 tak dok\u00e1\u017ee sledovat prchav\u00e9 vesm\u00edrn\u00e9 exploze d\u0159\u00edve, ne\u017e jejich dosvit vyhasne.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c_bB\">P\u016fvod jm\u00e9na \u201eNeil Gehrels\u201c:<\/p>\n<p class=\"c_bB\">P\u016fvodn\u011b se mise jmenovala Swift Gamma-Ray Burst Explorer. Ke p\u0159ejmenov\u00e1n\u00ed na sou\u010dasn\u00fd n\u00e1zev do\u0161lo 10.\u00a0ledna 2018\u00a0na po\u010dest doktora Neila Gehrelse.
