Habib Beye has set a clear condition for remaining at Rennes, saying the project will end if the club fail to reach Europe. He is under contract until June 2026, with a one-year extension activated by European qualification, according to L’Équipe.

Beye arrived in January 2025 to replace Jorge Sampaoli and endured a mixed start. After early pressure in Ligue 1 he has steadied results, with five wins in the last six and a rise from 10th to sixth.

Rennes begin 2026 with a trip to Lille on Saturday at 21:05. Beye said any talks over his future will take place only on 26 May if there is a Coupe de France final, which he hopes will be the case, and not before.

He reiterated that the framework was set on day one, with time to discuss only if the extra year is triggered. For now he considers the balance very positive.

Since taking charge he has prioritised youth and development, giving trust to Jérémy Jacquet, Djaoui Cissé and Mohamed Kader Meïté, now established in the squad. His focus, he said, is to grow the club, progress young players and bring the best out of a high-quality group over the next five months.
