Nicht nur in der Wilhelma leben mit Pama (59) und Zella (58) zwei betagte Elefanten. In Karlsruhe gibt es sogar eine Altersresidenz für die Senioren unter den Dickhäutern. Ein Besuch.

An diesem kalten Morgen mit Minusgraden sind die Dickhäuter Jenny, Saida und Indra im Zoo Karlsruhe überwiegend drinnen im Warmen, sie kommen erst etwas später nach draußen, um sich Futter zu holen. Draußen befindet sich eine abwechslungsreiche Anlage von rund 3000 Quadratmetern mit unterschiedlichen Bereichen für Bewegung und Spiel. Sie wurde vor ein paar Jahren von 1000 auf 3000 Quadratmeter vergrößert, wie der Zoo-Sprecher Timo Deible erklärt.
