The city’s money is a prerequisite for a total of 25.6 million euros to be invested in the renovation of the tower, among other things, the city announced on request. Half of the money is to come from federal funding, the rest from the Free State of Bavaria and the city budget, according to the corresponding draft resolution.

Tower under monument protection

The Dresden television tower was built in the 1960s and is a listed building. The building has been closed to the public since 1991. Until then, according to the city, around 200,000 visitors a year visited the viewing platform of the 250-metre-high tower. The aim of the project is to put the building to public use.
