Beim Spiel auf der Insel der American Football League Europe (AFLE) am Samstag (22.8.) wird es zwar reichlich Spektakel, aber keine Halbzeitshow wie in den USA geben. \u201eEs ist schlie\u00dflich nur ein normales Ligaduell und kein Endspiel\u201c, sagt Andreas Nommensen, AFLE-Commissioner und somit Ligachef. Dass der erst vor drei Monaten gestartete Wettbewerb \u00fcberhaupt die Reise nach Mallorca antritt, war der Suche nach einem Stadion geschuldet.<\/p>\n

Beim letzten der zw\u00f6lf Spieltage treffen die London Warriors auf Rhein Fire aus Duisburg. Heimrecht haben die Briten. \u201eWir konnten zu dem Termin aber kein Stadion in London finden und suchten nach Alternativen\u201c, sagt Nommensen. \u201eDa dachten wir, warum nicht Mallorca?\u201c Zum spanischen Verband habe man gute Beziehungen, wenngleich es nach dem Abschied der Madrid Bravos derzeit keine Mannschaft aus Spanien mehr in der Europa-Liga gibt. \u201eAuf der Insel gibt es gen\u00fcgend Briten und Deutsche, die sich f\u00fcr das Spiel interessieren k\u00f6nnten\u201c, sagt Nommensen.<\/p>\n

Gespielt wird nicht auf dem Nebenplatz des Stadions Son Moix, wo es Spaniens einziges dauerhaft installiertes Football-Feld gibt. Um auf Naturrasen spielen zu k\u00f6nnen, w\u00e4hlten die Footballer das Estadi Balear von Ingo Volckmanns Atl\u00e9tico Baleares. Unterst\u00fctzung erh\u00e4lt die AFLE dabei vom spanischen Erstligisten Mallorca Voltors. \u201eWir r\u00fchren ordentlich die Werbetrommel und unterst\u00fctzen bei der Logistik\u201c, sagt Teamleiter Fernando Toro. Unter anderem m\u00fcssen statt der Fu\u00dfballtore besondere Stangen aufgestellt werden, damit das f\u00fcr den American Football n\u00f6tige Tor entsteht. <\/p>\n

Aus sportlicher Sicht bietet die Begegnung m\u00f6glicherweise weniger Brisanz. Sowohl Rhein Fire als auch die London Warriors sind bereits f\u00fcr die Play-offs qualifiziert. Ein Sieg in Palma bringt h\u00f6chstens den Briten eine bessere Platzierung. \u201eDie Herangehensweise beider Mannschaften wird interessant sein\u201c, sagt Nommensen, der fr\u00fcher selbst Spieler war und heute Nachwuchstrainer ist. \u201eSchonen sie ihre Stars f\u00fcr die Play-offs, oder lassen sie sie auflaufen, damit die Spieler im Rhythmus bleiben? Ich tippe auf Letzteres.\u201c<\/p>\n

Bei den Protagonisten handelt es sich um nationale Talente der Vereine, die durch europ\u00e4ische und US-amerikanische Profis verst\u00e4rkt werden. Manch einer hat schon bei NFL-Teams gespielt. Nat\u00fcrlich k\u00f6nnen Fans auf Mallorca nun keine Spieler des Niveaus eines Tom Bradys erwarten. \u201eWir sind eher stolz darauf, dass unsere Liga als Sprungbrett dient. Manche Spieler haben es so zu Probetrainings der NFL geschafft.\u201c<\/p>\n
