He takes a particular interest in assisted reproduction and genome editing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Portrait Dr. Andy Greenfield\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Andy_Greenfield_600-900.jpeg\" title=\"Portrait Dr. Andy Greenfield\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"cms-imageboxbmbf-copyright article-image__copyright\">Robbie Greenfield<\/p>\n<p>Greenfield led a research programme at the Medical Research Council (MRC) Harwell Institute for over 25 years, examining the genetics of sex determination. In 2009, he joined the Human Fertilisation &amp; Embryology Authority (HFEA), later becoming chair of its licence committee. He chaired two expert panel reviews of mitochondrial donation prior to the techniques being authorised for UK use.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, he chaired a Nuffield Council on Bioethics working group examining the ethics of genome editing.\u00a0 In 2019, he joined the International Commission on the Clinical Use of Human Germline Genome Editing. Greenfield is currently a member of the Regulatory Horizons Council, a body that advises the UK government on regulation and its impact on emerging technologies. He is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Oxford.
