Gill habe &#8222;eine Position von erheblicher Autorit\u00e4t und Vertrauen missbraucht&#8220;, sagte Richterin Bobbie Cheema-Grubb bei der Urteilsverk\u00fcndung am Freitag in London. Der Politiker hatte sich schuldig bekannt, Bestechungsgelder in H\u00f6he von tausenden Pfund angenommen und vorgegebene pro-russische Reden im EU-Parlament gehalten zu haben.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_text-default__P3otY Typography_weight-normal__pqUbH storyline_paragraph_p__qSR5N\">Gill, der 2021 kurzzeitig den Vorsitz der rechtspopulistischen Partei Reform UK in Wales innehatte, habe &#8222;die Integrit\u00e4t eines supranationalen Gesetzgebungsorgans grundlegend beeintr\u00e4chtigt&#8220;, f\u00fcgte Richterin Cheema-Grupp hinzu .Von 2014 bis 2020 war Gill Abgeordneter im Europaparlament. Er war Mitglied der euroskeptischen Ukip-Partei, die zeitweise von dem Reform UK-Vorsitzenden Nigel Farage angef\u00fchrt wurde.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_text-default__P3otY Typography_weight-normal__pqUbH storyline_paragraph_p__qSR5N\">Gill gestand, von Dezember 2018 bis Juli 2019 achtmal Bestechungsgelder des pro-russischen ukrainischen Politikers Oleg Woloschyn angenommen zu haben. Woloschyn steht auf einer Sanktionsliste der USA und wurde in der Ukraine des Verrats angeklagt .Auf dessen Gehei\u00df hielt Gill pro-russische Reden im EU-Parlament und absolvierte Fernsehauftritte.
