To deem Amy Dabbs\u2018<\/a> approach to DJ\u2019ing highly energetic would be a huge understatement. No matter if the UK born and raised artist dishes out straight four-four house, bouncy UK Garage or heavy-hitting bass music, she has ravers on the tip of their toes throughout her sets. That doesn\u2019t mean, however, that there\u2019s no space for heartfelt, profound emotions and a soulful, authentic groove that pays homage to the roots of house music, as she proves in her contribution to our podcast series.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What did you have in mind when recording this mix?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I wanted to create a mix that\u00a0covers a range of the different\u00a0styles that I play across the broad spectrum of sounds I grew up on in the UK.\u00a0I\u2019ve been loving playing more UKG in Berlin recently, since there\u2019s now more of an appetite for it than when I moved here in 2018, but I didn\u2019t want the mix to focus solely\u00a0on that as I often play a lot of other genres in my sets. So this\u00a0mix covers house, garage, bass and even some techno vibes. I\u00a0really love high-energy sounds, so that\u2019s what I like to bring out both in my sets and in my productions.<\/p>\n

Where did you record it and which setup did you use?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I recorded it live at my home in Berlin, on two mismatched turntables (a 1210 and a Vestax PDX2000 scratch deck I bought around 2003 for some reason), and a Pioneer controller.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s the most memorable gig you played so far?<\/strong><\/p>\n

That has to go down\u00a0as Panorama Bar earlier this year. It was a dream to be on the decks there, and my friends turned out in force both from Berlin and overseas. It was epic.<\/p>\n

The recent\u00a0Dabbs\u00a0Traxx party at Renate comes a pretty close second\u2014it\u2019s so special to see a new community come together here in Berlin that loves the UK sound.<\/p>\n

Can you name a secret weapon that you use frequently?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chris Gialanze \u2013 Gunna Be<\/a>. I heard Seb Zito play this at Watergate during our b2b and was immediately hooked. It still features regularly in both my garage and my house sets\u2014it\u2019s a banger.<\/p>\n

Three recent releases that caught your attention?<\/strong><\/p>\n

INSTINCT (UK) \u2013 Lost From the Vaults<\/a><\/strong>. This EP is a masterclass in nodding to original UKG music, delicately using some of the old samples in really\u00a0fresh original tracks. I\u2019m a huge fan of INSTINCT (UK), he always delivers the highest quality productions and the\u00a0sound is right up my street. His housey stuff is full of rave and 90s influences, and the garage tracks are all heaters!<\/p>\n

OPPIDAN \u2013 My Name Is OPP!<\/a><\/strong> This whole EP is packed with dance floor\u00a0energy, it\u2019s a really slick selection of 130-140 jams that would fit into so many different types of sets. I\u2019m loving all the hybrid speed garage x techno tunes at the moment, so \u201eDARWIN\u201c is a real standout track for me here.<\/p>\n

1OO1O \u2013 HEARTBREAX<\/a><\/strong>. This is the kind of footwork I play\u00a0in my jungle sets, full of lush pads and emotive sounds. 1OO1O makes 160 beats that sound so modern and so nostalgic at the same time. I only came across him recently and I\u2019m loving the breadth of the stuff he\u2019s putting out, from house through to really rhythmic uptempo breaks.<\/p>\n

What do you have coming up?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I just dropped my Green Room EP<\/a> on Shall Not Fade, named after the room I\u2019ve held my residency in at Renate for the last 3 years, and where I\u2019ve been running my\u00a0Dabbs\u00a0Traxx label parties. I have some exciting plans for\u00a0Dabbs\u00a0Traxx in 2026, including more events both in and outside of Berlin, and I\u2019ll be opening the label up for demos from other\u00a0artists next year too. My first release in 2026 will be a solo EP on\u00a0Dabbs\u00a0Traxx, including a speed garage track I just finished that\u2019s been going off when I\u2019ve road-tested\u00a0it at my shows, and a\u00a0collaboration\u00a0with the super-talented Berlin-based vocalist, Tee Amara.<\/p>\n
