Der Abelpreis ist eine norwegische Auszeichnung und wird oft als eine Art „Nobelpreis der Mathematik“ bezeichnet. Faltings wird Ende Mai mit dem Preis in Oslo ausgezeichnet – in Anwesenheit des norwegischen K\u00f6nigs Harald V. Faltings war bis 2023 Professor an der Universit\u00e4t Bonn und auch als Direktor am Max-Planck-Institut der Mathematik in Bonn t\u00e4tig. Zur Auszeichnung geh\u00f6rt ein Preisgeld von 7,5 Millionen Kronen, umgerechnet sind das in etwa 670 Tausend Euro. Faltings wurde in den 1980ern in der mathematischen Welt ber\u00fchmt – im Zusammenhang mit einer mathematischen Vermutung, die lange Zeit als unbeweisbar galt.
