Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has ordered the preparation of a clear plan for a special sanctions operation designed to significantly restrict the Russian military-industrial complex.
“I have instructed officials to prepare a clear plan for a special sanctions operation designed to significantly restrict the Russian military-industrial complex – specifically targeting certain companies in sectors we have identified. Each participant in the meeting received specific tasks. I expect full implementation,” Zelenskyy said on his Telegram channel on Thursday following a coordination meeting on sanctions.
According to the president, the main goal is to prevent Russia from having time to adapt to the restrictions.
“We see that every Russian missile, every drone, and most other types of Russian weapons contain critical components from other countries, without which such weapons simply would not exist,” he said.
In addition, meeting participants discussed Russia’s use of foreign-made machinery and technologies, without which “Moscow would be a generation behind” and would be unable to produce modern weapons on its own.
“We need to apply more pressure to limit the aggressor state’s ties with the rest of the world,” the president said.
