Weapons manufacturer Raytheon has been awarded a $22.9-billion U.S. Navy contract to increase Tomahawk missile output, with a production goal of more than 1,000 missiles annually.

“Tomahawk is the Navy’s most important strike weapon, able to target hostile forces hundreds of miles away without ever risking the lives of our sailors,” said Raytheon President Phil Jasper in a press release. “We are making significant investments in our workforce, technology, supply chain and facilities to dramatically boost production capacity and meet surging demand.”

The seven-year contract comes as America’s weapons stockpiles have been depleted from the ongoing Iran war. Current missile production is about 60 missiles annually, although Raytheon noted that it delivered three times as many missiles during the first six months of this year as it did in the same period of 2025.

“We called on industry to rapidly scale up munitions output, and RTX is delivering,” posted Acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao on X.

RTX Corp. is Raytheon’s parent company.

“This landmark Tomahawk contract ensures our warfighters continue to have the lethal firepower they need,” Cao added.

In recent months, the U.S. government has been urging munitions manufacturers to increase production. In January, Raytheon received an additional $381 million to recertify and upgrade Tomahawk missiles under an existing contract. And earlier in August, the miliary signed deals to boost parts production for THAAD interceptor and Patriot missiles.

Tomahawk missiles are manufactured in Tucson, Ariz., Huntsville, Ala., and Andover, Mass., although the Navy has a large network of component suppliers nationwide.

“By working closely with industry to expand our munitions industrial base’s capacity, the department is utilizing every available tool to meet the demands of our current operations, ensuring they are equipped to fight, win and come home safe,” Cao said.
