Turkish General Directorate of Security (EGM) has become the second non-military government entity to introduce TUSAŞ’s T625 GÖKBEY light utility helicopter.
T625 GÖKBEY, as a dual-service helicopter, is gradually entering civilian service alongside military introduction, and the new recipient for the utility helicopter is the General Directorate of Security, alternatively the Turkish Police.
With this delivery, both main law enforcement entities of the Turkish government have received the T625 GÖKBEY, the other being the Turkish Gendarmerie, which holds a rather rare structure as a law enforcement agency with a military layout.
The Turkish Police also received T70 medium utility helicopters and AKSUNGUR UCAVs from TUSAŞ a few months ago.
Economic Contribution of Indigenous Utility Helicopters
Secretary of Turkish Defence Industries Haluk Görgün attending the delivery ceremony underlined that the introduction of indigenously produced helicopters has landed a saving worth $8 billion in terms of direct procurement and $35 billion in terms of platform lifetime due to the import costs of helicopters.
T625 GÖKBEY and its heavier follow-up T925 are projected to be procured in large numbers for both military and civilian service. The planned civilian uses include personnel transport, law enforcement activities, offshore logistics, disaster relief, and SAR missions.
