{"id":4465,"date":"2026-07-23T16:33:07","date_gmt":"2026-07-23T16:33:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/defence\/4465\/"},"modified":"2026-07-23T16:33:07","modified_gmt":"2026-07-23T16:33:07","slug":"lockheed-martin-ventures-to-invest-100m-in-european-defense-firms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/defence\/4465\/","title":{"rendered":"Lockheed Martin Ventures to invest $100M in European defense firms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">FARNBOROUGH \u2014 The strategic investment arm of US-based Lockheed Martin is widening its reach into European markets, with plans to invest $100 million in defense companies across the continent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The move follows the \u201clargest boost\u201d in available money in Lockheed Martin Venture\u2019s 19-year history, thanks to in part to the acceleration of Europe\u2019s defense industry, the company said in a press release. In April, the fund doubled global investments from $400 million to $1 billion, Chris Moran, vice president and general manager of Lockheed Martin\u2019s venture arm, told Breaking Defense.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fund is also opening its first office in London as it grows its investments in Europe.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe saw the business activity, particularly in tech areas we care about and defense, and now an abundance of deals happening over here [in Europe] that we wanted to be more directly involved in and partake in,\u201d Moran said at the air show here.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The VC firm is seeking to invest more in emerging technologies, Moran said, adding that quantum computing and sensing, autonomy, and advanced manufacturing technologies are three sectors of interest.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lockheed Martin said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/news.lockheedmartin.com\/2026-07-16-Lockheed-Martin-Earmarks-100-Million-for-Venture-Capital-Investments-in-U-K-,-Europe\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">press release<\/a>  that the portion of the funding dedicated to Europe is \u201cpart of the company\u2019s commitment to strengthen the transatlantic defense industrial base.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moran said he expects to review between 300 and 500 investment opportunities and make concrete investments into three to five European companies over the next several years.
