Turkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan will group senior ministers, hold \u2060joint exercises and deepen defence industry cooperation under a military pact signed between the regional powers last week, Turkiye\u2019s defence ministry says.<\/p>\n

The three countries on August 7 signed the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement<\/a> on August 7, which stipulates that an armed attack against any member would be regarded as \u200can attack on all, similar to NATO\u2019s Article 5 collective defence clause.<\/p>\n

At a weekly briefing in Ankara on Thursday, the Turkish defence ministry said the pact\u2019s fundamental goal<\/a> was to ensure defence and military ties were put on a \u201cmore institutional and sustainable\u201d footing.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnder the accord, strategic political and military mechanisms plan to be established involving the Defence Ministers, Foreign Ministers, and Chiefs of General \u2060Staff\/Armed Forces Commanders, and that coordination among the three countries will \u2060be conducted at the highest level,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n

The ministry added that joint military exercises involving land, naval and air forces, as well as air defence and unmanned systems were planned, in \u2060addition to deeper defence industry cooperation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe aim is to provide not only product and system supply, but also joint \u2060development and production, technology cooperation, and sustainable maintenance and \u2060logistics support,\u201d it said, adding that unmanned and autonomous systems, electronic warfare and artificial intelligence capabilities would be prioritised.<\/p>\n

Turkiye, which has NATO\u2019s second-largest army, has said the pact with nuclear-armed Pakistan and top oil \u200cexporter Saudi Arabia was open to expansion \u2014 with Egypt as a potential candidate<\/a> \u2014 and did not seek to replace any existing alliances.<\/p>\n

The ministry also said Turkiye \u200cwas \u200cparticipating in meetings in Jeddah aimed at establishing an international coalition to protect Red Sea shipping.<\/p>\n

On developments in the Middle East, ministry spokesperson Rear Admiral Zeki Akturk said lasting peace and stability in the region would be possible if Israel ends its occupation and attacks in Gaza and Lebanon.<\/p>\n

He said Israel continues attacks that have deepened the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, as also reflected in United Nations reports.<\/p>\n

\u201cIsrael\u2019s rejection of the 15-point Gaza Plan has been another indication that it is pursuing a policy of regional expansionism. On the other hand, despite the framework agreement that was signed, Israel similarly continues its attacks and military activities in southern Lebanon,\u201d Akturk said, referring to the plan proposed by the United States.<\/p>\n
