New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the transfer of DRDO-developed technologies of all conventional missile systems to the Indian defence industry for production within the country. The defence ministry, making the announcement, said the move is an “important milestone” in promoting greater participation of the domestic industries in the defence ecosystem.<\/p>\n

“The provision will enable successful transition of missile system development to industrial production, reflecting the continued efforts of DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) to leverage the capabilities of the Indian industry for the development and manufacture of advanced defence systems,” the ministry said.<\/p>\n

It said the objective is to enhance domestic manufacturing capabilities, strengthen the defence industrial base and create opportunities for the participation of Indian MSMEs and other technology partners in the supply chain.<\/p>\n

According to a fact sheet issued by the government, the value of indigenous defence production reached a record \u20b91.78 lakh crore in FY 2025\u201326. This marked 15.6% growth from \u20b91,54,071 crore in the previous fiscal and \u20b946,429 crore in 2014\u201315.<\/p>\n

Defence exports surged from \u20b9686 crore in 2013\u201314 to \u20b938,424 crore in 2025\u201326, it stated.<\/p>\n

Indian defence products are now exported to 80+ countries, the data revealed and this was marked as showing over 5,500% growth in the past twelve years.<\/p>\n

Defence Public Sector Undertakings(PSUs) and other PSUs contributed around 76% of total production in FY 2025\u201326.<\/p>\n

The private sector\u2019s share rose to 24%, reflecting greater industry participation.<\/p>\n

Till May 2026, 10 Positive Indigenisation lists, five each of Department of Military Affairs (DMA) and the Department of Defence Production (DDP), covering 5,521 items, were notified, resulting in increased Aatmanirbharta in defence production.<\/p>\n

Srijan Defence Equipment Empowerment Platform (DEEP) is a digital repository promoting indigenous defence sourcing. As of May 2026, it listed over 41,000 vendors and 2.7 lakh products, strengthening domestic supply chains.<\/p>\n

“India\u2019s defence industry has undergone a remarkable transformation in the past decade,” a statement from the Ministry of Defence read. Focused policies, targeted investments, and a strong push for self-reliance have turned the country into a significant producer and exporter of defence equipment, it added.<\/p>\n
