Bombardier has agreed to acquire the assets of MHI Canada Aerospace in Mississauga, Ontario, bringing a key part of its aerostructures supply chain under direct control. The transaction is expected to close later this year, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.<\/p>\n
The deal will add MHICA\u2019s manufacturing capabilities and approximately 750 employees to Bombardier\u2019s operations. The company said the acquisition would strengthen its industrial resilience and autonomy while giving it greater flexibility to support demand for its aircraft portfolio.<\/p>\n
David Murray, executive vice-president for manufacturing, supply-chain execution and the Bombardier Operational Excellence System, said: \u201cThis agreement represents a key step in Bombardier\u2019s long-term growth strategy, strengthening critical capabilities, enhancing operational resilience and supporting the company\u2019s flexibility to meet growing customer demand. MHI Canada Aerospace has built a highly respected operation with a talented and experienced team.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bombardier also plans to use the acquisition to deepen its manufacturing expertise and develop Canada\u2019s aerospace workforce. \u201cWith this acquisition, we are deepening our core manufacturing expertise as well as our commitment to proactively develop the local workforce through multiple streams in component manufacturing and whole aircraft assembly.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries will work with Bombardier to transfer the Mississauga operation without disrupting the aircraft programmes it supports. MHI will continue providing assistance for an interim period after closing to help maintain production and workforce continuity.<\/p>\n

For Bombardier, the purchase is intended to reinforce its manufacturing base while reducing exposure to disruption in a strategically important part of its supply chain. The transaction also brings an established Canadian supplier and its experienced workforce directly into the aircraft manufacturer\u2019s industrial network.<\/p>\n
Sandra Hodgkinson, senior vice-president for strategy and mergers and acquisitions at Bombardier, said: \u201cThis transaction is fully aligned with Bombardier\u2019s disciplined approach to investing in strategic capabilities that support our long-term priorities. Hodgkinson said the agreement would benefit both companies while keeping the Mississauga workforce within Canada\u2019s aerospace industry. \u201cThis transaction is a win-win for both companies as well as for the MHICA employees who join the Bombardier family and will continue to grow the local aerospace industry.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bombardier said the acquisition would reinforce its position as one of Canada\u2019s leading aerospace and defence employers. MHI will retain a significant presence in Canada through its other operations and said it remained committed to the commercial aerospace and defence sectors.<\/p>\n
The companies did not disclose the financial or commercial terms of the agreement.
