Saab UK has delivered Giraffe 1X radar systems to the Royal Air Force under an urgent requirement for counter-drone operations. The radars have joined the service\u2019s wider architecture for detecting, tracking and engaging airborne threats.<\/p>\n
The procurement strengthens the RAF\u2019s ability to counter the evolving threat from uncrewed aerial systems. It followed several years of collaboration between the service and Saab, drawing on earlier capability upgrades and operational experience.<\/p>\n
Saab mobilised its global production capacity at short notice to complete the delivery. The company also used its UK manufacturing and support operations to accelerate work on the requirement.<\/p>\n
The Giraffe 1X systems will complement the RAF Regiment\u2019s continuing role in providing counter-UAS protection for British and coalition forces. That mission includes operations in the Middle East, where specialist units defend personnel and facilities against drones.<\/p>\n

The delivery expands the UK\u2019s investment in force-protection capabilities at a time of rising operational demand for counter-drone systems.
