Safran Electronics & Defense will supply more than 1,000 MOSKITO observation systems and several hundred SHARPCROW systems for the Bundeswehr under a major order from Rheinmetall Electronics. The procurement will equip Germany\u2019s medium and heavy infantry forces and forms part of the country\u2019s accelerated modernisation of dismounted troops.<\/p>\n
Rheinmetall is the prime contractor for the Bundeswehr\u2019s Infanterist der Zukunft, or Infantryman of the Future, programme. The order builds on the companies\u2019 existing partnership and expands the use of Safran\u2019s portable optronic equipment within the German soldier system.<\/p>\n
The systems are intended to help infantry personnel assess their surroundings, detect and identify targets, and share battlefield information rapidly. Their combination of observation, location and digital reporting functions is designed to support faster tactical decisions in the field.<\/p>\n
MOSKITO combines day and night vision, laser range-finding and precise target geolocation in a compact, lightweight device. Safran said the system can detect, identify and locate targets across a wide range of operating environments.<\/p>\n
SHARPCROW is a handheld system combining thermal imaging, low-light imaging and a direct optical daylight channel. It also provides target-location and digital reporting functions intended to improve situational awareness.<\/p>\n

The Infanterist der Zukunft programme is the Bundeswehr\u2019s principal effort to modernise its infantry equipment.
