{"id":9492,"date":"2026-09-08T18:36:07","date_gmt":"2026-09-08T18:36:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/defence\/9492\/"},"modified":"2026-09-08T18:36:07","modified_gmt":"2026-09-08T18:36:07","slug":"polands-in-development-fighting-vehicle-carries-newfound-defense-export-drive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/defence\/9492\/","title":{"rendered":"Poland\u2019s in-development fighting vehicle carries newfound defense-export drive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">KIELCE, Poland \u2014 As Poland\u2019s defense spending has reached <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/global\/europe\/2026\/09\/01\/poland-readies-for-record-breaking-defense-show-as-opulent-budget-lures-vendors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">record levels<\/a>, the country aims to increasingly shift from the role of a buyer of foreign military gear to its exporter, W\u0142adys\u0142aw Kosiniak-Kamysz, Polish Deputy Prime Minister and National Defence Minister, said on the opening day of this year\u2019s MSPO show here. <\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The technology demonstrator for a new heavy tracked infantry fighting vehicle, developed by Poland\u2019s industry and presented during the event, reflects this ambition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cPoland is becoming a country that not only buys military gear from the world, but is also its major producer,\u201d Kosiniak-Kamysz said at the show\u2019s opening ceremony on Sept. 8.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The deputy prime minister said the Polish defense industry can benefit from the European Union\u2019s Security Action For Europe (SAFE) scheme. Under the instrument, Poland has been allocated up to \u20ac43.7 billion ($50.8 billion) worth of low-interest loans for military acquisitions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cWe have reached a level of fifty-fifty [between domestic military gear purchases and imports]. This would not happen without the SAFE mechanism,\u201d Kosiniak-Kamysz said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The Polish sector is dominated by state-owned defense group PGZ but also features a group of emerging private companies. <\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Kosiniak-Kamysz named PGZ\u2019s new heavy tracked infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), whose technology demonstrator was officially presented during this year\u2019s MSPO event, as one of the examples of the Polish industry\u2019s potential flagship export products.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cThis is a modern platform, with a weight of between 40 and 43 tons, which maximizes troop protection,\u201d a PGZ representative told Defense News. \u201cWe plan to present the vehicle\u2019s prototype next year, and it could enter serial production in 2029.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The heavy IFV is to be added to PGZ\u2019s offer alongside the group\u2019s light tracked IFV, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/global\/europe\/2023\/02\/28\/poland-eyes-1400-new-fighting-vehicles-to-replace-soviet-era-rides\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">the Borsuk (Badger)<\/a>, that is already in production.
