The 108th annual Warsaw High School Alumni Association Banquet, held Saturday, May 23 in the high school gymnasium, was attended by 35 enthusiastic alums and guests, including a 1946 alumna and graduates from classes from the 1950s–1980s. Traditionally held on the Saturday night of Memorial Day weekend, the gathering affords a relaxed, generous sharing of memories and camaraderie.
President Deb Casady-Roskamp welcomed the congenial group. Mary Lynne Arms and Bill Casady sang “God Bless America” and Casady gave the blessing.
The delicious self-serve buffet, catered by Niki Nichols of Boki’s Kitchen, Fowler, Ilinois, and supplemented by Hy-Vee and Walmart items, featured roast beef, chicken, ham, cheesy mashed potatoes, green beans, salad, and rolls. Chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla cupcakes by Bobbie Finton of Eby’s Bakery completed the menu.
Larry Stoll, class of 1982, was the youngest attendee, and Velma Brackensick, who left Warsaw High School’s halls 80 years ago, was the oldest. The class of 1965 was outstandingly represented with one of their classmates, Virginia Kiser Williams, who had traveled from North Carolina.
As in the past, collections of graduating class photos dating from the 1800s, and yearbooks – the oldest dated 1949 – were available for attendees to peruse.
The Warsaw High School Alumni Association welcomes new members. The group no longer requires membership dues. Please contact Deb Casady-Roskamp at 217-617-7711 for more information.
