Serena Williams’ return to tennis won’t just be limited to the HSBC Championships. Williams has also committed to playing in the 2026 Berlin Open, which will take place shortly after the HSBC Championships end.
Williams will take part in doubles matches at the 2026 Berlin Open, per WTA.com. Her partner for the event has not been announced yet.
Williams made waves Monday, when she announced she would return to tennis after years away from the sport. Williams, now 44, only confirmed she was taking part in the HBSC Championships in her announcement, leaving some uncertainty about the nature of her comeback.

Williams will participate in doubles matches at the event. She’s already confirmed she’ll take the court with Canadian Victoria Mboko.
With Williams committing to the 2026 Berlin Open, it appears she intends to play in multiple events ahead of Wimbledon … where it’s possible she’ll make her Grand Slam return.
Williams has not played in a professional tennis match since 2022, when she fell in the third round of that year’s US Open to Ajla Tomljanovic.
In her years away from the sport, Williams has become a spokesperson for GLP-1 weight-loss drugs. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has monitored those drugs, though they are not prohibited at this time.

Other than confirming her return, Williams hasn’t spoken much publicly about her comeback. While she’s not confirmed for any events beyond the Berlin Open, fans will undoubtedly want to see Williams play at Wimbledon, where she won seven of her 23 Grand Slam titles.
Williams has commented on playing at Wimbledon in 2026, but it would be a fantastic way for her to celebrate her return to the sport.
