BERLIN — Five children from Berlin have been named district champions of the 2026 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship and will advance to the state finals.
The boys and girls, ages 9 to 12, earned their titles during the district championship held this past weekend at St. Luke Catholic School. The event was sponsored by Isabella Council No. 15 of Southington. Winners from local competitions in Berlin, Meriden and Southington were eligible to compete.
In the 9-year-old division, Jaxon Williams won the boys’ bracket, and Madelyn Patterson won the girls’ bracket. Ireland Sutton was named the girls’ champion in the 10-year-old division. Francesca Alkas won the girls’ title in the 11-year-old bracket. Andrew Glowicki won the boys’ championship in the 12-year-old division after four tie-breaker rounds.
All five winners will compete in the state championship on March 28 at St. Paul High School in Bristol.
The Knights of Columbus Council 3675 in Berlin helped support the event.
The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic fraternal service organization, with about 16,000 councils worldwide. Founded in 1882, the organization was created to help working-class and immigrant Catholics in the United States. Today, it’s nearly two million members who support charitable causes at the local, national and international levels through donations and volunteer service.
