A charity event titled ‘Hero in Motion’ recently transformed the terrace of the ‘Hero’ business center in Vilnius into a 300-meter running track, highlighting the intersection of corporate wellness and social responsibility. Approximately 80 participants from various companies based in the center spent the day moving at their own pace to support the ‘Paradoksas’ sports club for people with disabilities.

The initiative brought together teams from firms including the law firm Cobalt, technology company Wire Salad, global consultancy PwC, and real estate firm Colliers. Participants collectively covered 446 kilometers, with each lap contributing €1 to the fundraising goal. The final total of €3,000 will be used to purchase racing wheelchairs for athletes. The amount was significantly bolstered by corporate contributions; for instance, the logistics real estate developer Sirin Development, which led in total laps completed, chose to double the donation amount collected by its employees. Additional support was provided by the Janukonis Foundation and the real estate developer Realco.

A poignant highlight of the event was a guided run where participants were blindfolded to simulate the experience of visually impaired athletes. The session was led by Danas Sodaitis, a para-athlete and European Paralympic championship medalist. Sodaitis, who completed 59 laps during the event, acted as a guide for many participants, offering them a firsthand perspective on the challenges faced by para-athletes.

Following the physical activities, the event featured a panel discussion on balancing professional life, sports, and rest. Moderated by influencer Paul de Miko, the discussion included Martynas Gudonavičius, founder of the transport app Trafi, and Aušra Garunkšnytė, a marathon runner and member of the Lithuanian Paralympic team. The experts emphasized that consistency is more important than short-term intensity in both business and sports. They noted that recognizing the need for rest is essential to avoiding burnout and achieving long-term success.

This event demonstrated how modern office environments can serve as hubs for social awareness and community engagement. The ‘Hero’ terrace, which offers panoramic views of Vilnius, provided a unique space for professionals to step away from their desks and contribute to meaningful change in the disability sports community.
