A cargo vessel collided with a moored sailboat in Korsør Harbor, Denmark, in the evening of 8 June, causing significant damage but no injuries.
According to local news, the incident happened at around 19:56 when authorities received reports that the cargo vessel had entered the harbor and struck a German-flagged sailboat tied up at the quay. The ship also hit the harbor pier, three lampposts, a stone block, and caused damage on the opposite side of the harbor. A distress flare was triggered during the collision.
The sailboat belonged to a German couple. They had to jump from their boat when the crash happened but escaped without injury.
The cargo ship is registered in Antigua and Barbuda and had arrived in Korsør from Wismar in Germany. There was no pilot boat accompanying the ship at the time, which is unusual for vessels having difficulty entering a harbor.
On 9 June, police confirmed that the ship’s first officer was arrested on suspicion of being intoxicated while responsible for navigation. Officials said the officer had a blood alcohol level of one per thousand over the legal limit.
