New destinations and new airlines are featured in Athens Airport’s just-released flight schedule for 2026.

The opening of Athens to distant and emerging markets, combined with new direct connections with more European cities, clearly reflect the travel trends of the year, which are oriented toward more diversification, new experiences and an expansion of airline options.

This may well be the year of Asia for Athens: After a two-year absence, Greece is once again gaining direct air connections with South Korea from April. Korean Air, which is making its debut at Athens Airport, will launch charter flights to and from Seoul.

India is also added to the map of Asian destinations. IndiGo recently launched the Athens-New Delhi and Athens-Mumbai routes, while Aegean is expected to operate on the same routes soon.

Athens Airport may already have a dense network of routes to Europe, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t new destinations that could be added, opening the door to more unexpected routes for travelers. From May 1, Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air will launch a route to Gdansk, Poland, making it the only airline to offer this route from Athens. Latvia’s AirBaltic will add a connection to Tallinn on April 29, its second direct route from Athens after Riga. Romania’s AnimaWings will reach Athens on March 29, launching direct routes to Cluj and Timisoara, taking over both routes as the sole carrier.

At the same time, Portugal’s TAP returns on July 1 with flights to Lisbon, almost 14 years after it departed last presence, completing the connection already served by Aegean and Sky Express.

The US market for the domestic tourism product is recording a steady upward trend. American Airlines announced the resumption of flights to Dallas from May 21, offering travelers more options for connecting to the south of the US and facilitating travel for both business and tourist destinations. Air Canada is extending its season, with flights from Montreal and Toronto starting a month earlier, from March 6 instead of March 31, giving passengers greater flexibility.

Delta is bringing forward the resumption of flights to Atlanta by 20 days, while United from Chicago, Delta from Boston and American from Charlotte will resume their flights two weeks earlier.
