I still remember how I felt last winter, when KPop Demon Hunters was clearly a sensation, but there weren’t enough toys, collectibles, or other merch to satisfy the Huntr/x fans singing “How It’s Done” while decorating the Christmas tree.
My, how times have changed. It seems that new KPop toys are coming out every day, from Funko Pops to art sets to fast-food meals and all the merch that comes with them.
And while many of the offerings on hand ask fans to pick a side between Huntr/x and the Saja Boys, there’s only one KPop Demon Hunters character I swear my allegiance to: Derpy, the blue tiger that seems mostly cute, and kind of menacing at the same time.
While there is a Derpy Squishmallow to cuddle up with, I prefer the DIY approach. In that way, I’m super excited about LEGO’s first KPop Demon Hunters set, which focuses on my fantastic furry feline. Fans of Sussie will thrill to know that the three-eyed bird is also included in the set, perched atop Derpy’s big, blue head.
In my opinion, LEGO really nailed Derpy’s essence. There’s the vacant look in its eyes, the bold stripes and patterns of its fur, and they’ve even captured the way Derpy loves to knock over a garbage can or flower pot. Builders can choose from two expressions on its face, and one has its tongue sticking out to show one of two “love notes”—and the love notes can be stored in its head!
The other thing I appreciate about this set is that it’s for ages 9 and up, which means I can try to build it with my daughter, who is squarely in the KPop Demon Hunters fan demographic. When it’s done, she can put it in her room, and set it up in different ways since the head, legs, and paws are all posable. (Susssie’s neck and feet are movable too.)
The set retails for $70, and it’s available for preorder now on lego.com. It doesn’t ship out until August 1, though, so I still have a little bit more to wait—but once it comes, I know it’s going to be golden.
