“This is very special. It was built by Snøhetta, the Norwegian architecture firm that also designed the modern Library of Alexandria in Egypt, and it’s a stunning building. It looks almost like a glacier and you can walk on top of it. I saw Don Quixote there.”

Feeling restless after tour, Sigrid visited a tiny village in the Lofoten Islands solo.

“One time I had come back from tour and was feeling tired and restless, so I went to a tiny village called Henningsvær by myself. It was the best thing, because I got to experience the islands there at my own tempo. I rented a super-tiny red car and cruised around. It’s so cool there and has very diverse nature. In the wintertime there’s amazing skiing; in the summertime it feels very tropical and looks like the Hawaii of Norway: super green, incredible mountains, sandy beaches, turquoise water. There’s an abandoned factory that’s been turned into a hotel, restaurant, and bar called Trevarefabrikken that holds a small music festival in the summer midnight sun and in winter.”
Hotel Union Øye
“This hotel is deep in the fjord near Ålesund, my hometown, on the west coast of Norway. It’s gorgeous, very romantic. I know the people who run it, and they’ve tried to keep the original features. It has Norwegian heritage, but there’s also a UK connection, because British travelers came here in the 19th century and hung out. The main thing is the nature around it. The hiking is awesome.”
