The Swiss company Wyss&Lila has opened a new maintenance facility in Schwarzheide, in the Industriepark Lausitz, near Berlin. The facility has 3 maintenance lines, 6 work bays for locomotives, and a 3,500-square-meter workshop.
Wyss&Lila, a Swiss engineering company specializing in the life-cycle management of railway systems, has opened a new maintenance workshop in Schwarzheide, in Germany.
The facility is located in Industriepark Lausitz, near Berlin, and marks a new phase in the company’s expansion into the European market, with a focus on the German railway sector.
Strategic Location in Germany
Schwarzheide was chosen after evaluating several locations, due to its existing infrastructure, connectivity, and position within a well-developed industrial ecosystem.
According to the company, the location in Industriepark Lausitz offers direct access to major transportation routes and industrial infrastructure suitable for railway maintenance operations.
Proximity to rail corridors and industrial partners should enable more efficient operations and a faster response to demand in Germany and the broader European region.
Being located in an industrial hub also provides access to services, logistical support, and scalable infrastructure, allowing the company to focus on rail maintenance and engineering activities.
3,500-square-meter facility
The new workshop is designed for the maintenance of modern rolling stock and for services covering the entire life cycle of rail vehicles.
The facility includes 3 maintenance lines, with 6 work bays for locomotives, a 3,500-square-meter workshop, and 1,000 meters of storage tracks.
The workshop also features an 8-metric-ton gantry crane, 5,000 square meters of on-site storage capacity, high-voltage testing systems, and secure tracks for long-term storage and monitoring of vehicles.
The facility benefits from 24/7 security within the BASF industrial site.
