WARSAW — The Warsaw Chamber of Commerce held its annual reverse drawing, one of its major fundraisers, on Thursday, June 18. Ticket holders had one in 108 chances to win, with more chances if additional tickets were purchased. The cost of the ticket also provided the ticket holder with two meals and a chance to win one of 10 door prizes awarded to those present.

A meal was provided by Peggy’s Kitchen Table with smoked brisket, roasted pork loin, scalloped potatoes, green beans and bread. Piggy Wiggly of Warsaw donated the desserts with a great variety of cakes and pies. Farm fresh salads, with tea and fresh-squeezed lemonade provided by the Chamber, completed the meal.

The first ticket pulled had the opportunity to receive a token of $100 or go back into the drawing. This individual donated the funds to the chamber. Then the activities began again as one by one, tickets were drawn with every 10th ticket holder receiving a prize bag containing items from businesses in the community.

As the event continued, the last five tickets were given the chance to split or stay in for an additional round. In agreement, all five decided to take a smaller portion, since the other option could mean nothing at all. Congratulations to the 3 Girls of Magnolia, who will split their winnings, Calvin Held, who will be donating his share to his church building fund, Joann Stroud of Kenansville, and Nelson Carlton and Timothy Brickhouser of Warsaw. All monies were won by citizens of Duplin County.

“The members of the Warsaw Chamber of Commerce extend a heartfelt thanks to the area businesses that donated items for the silent auction part of our evening,” said Chamber President Frank Rhodes. “Those businesses are West Water Ham, Hardison & Burgette Dental, Warsaw Welding, Villari Foods, Costin’s Blueberry Farm, all of Warsaw, Minute Man Press, Red Moon Herb and Nutrena Feeds, NC Farm Bureau, Duplin County Historic Society of Kenansville and King Farms, Teachey.”

Funds raised from this event will be used for community projects, including the Veterans’ Day Celebration and Parade, held on Saturday, November 7. This parade is the oldest consecutive Veterans Day celebration in American, and is also the Official Veterans Days Parade in North Carolina.

“Thank you to all who purchased tickets, donated door prizes or Silent Auction items or prepared or provided food,” Rhodes said. “The evening was a success and fun evening of fellowship shared by all.”
