WASHINGTON (TNND) — During the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in Turkey, President Donald Trump once again emphasized his belief that the U.S. should have control of Greenland.

“Greenland should be controlled by the United States, not by Denmark,” the president said Tuesday.

He said Wednesday that he was “not happy with NATO” due to what they did with Greenland.

Earlier this year, Trump insisted that the US will take Greenland in “one way or the other.”

“If we don’t do it, Russia or China will, and that’s not going to happen when I’m president,” he said in January.

European leaders on Wednesday pushed back on Trump and stated they would defend the Danish territory.

“We are ready to defend every inch of NATO, including our own territory,” Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen told reporters, according to the Politico news outlet. “One of the reasons why we built NATO many, many years ago is if anything happens to one of us then everybody should stand up for each other.”

Polish President Karol Nawrocki said that problems related to international concerns can be solved in NATO.

“Allies can solve the problems inside NATO,” he said. “I’m sure that we will solve the problems around the many international issues.”
