Christian Eriksen is starting an individual rehabilitation programme after collapsing on the pitch again last month while playing for Denmark, his German club Wolfsburg said.

Wolfsburg did not say on Thursday whether he can play again after the incident in a friendly international against Ukraine on June 7.

“Christian Eriksen will shortly begin an individual rehabilitation programme. Following discussions with VfL managing director Dieter Hecking, it was decided that the 34-year-old will complete it in his native Denmark,” the Wolfsburg statement said.

“VfL remains in regular contact with Christian and the doctors overseeing his treatment. We continue to wish Christian all the very best with his rehabilitation.”

Five years go Eriksen suffered cardiac arrest during a Euro 2021 game, had to be resuscitated and had a defibrillator implanted.

This time Eriksen quickly regained consciousness and was able to walk to an ambulance on his own.

Eriksen joined Wolfsburg, who were relegated from the Bundesliga in May, last year on a two-year contract.
