LEGO Art continues its epic run re-imagining some of the world’s most significant art pieces in LEGO form, and in August 2026, Austrian symbolist painter Gustav Klimt’s masterpiece The Kiss will be transformed into a LEGO Art set like no other.

31221 Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss celebrates Klimt’s masterpiece, and one of his best known pieces that defined his “Golden Phase”, and will be released on 1 August 2026 via LEGO Insiders Early Access exclusively on LEGO.com or your local LEGO Store.

At 4,000-pieces, and measuring 60cm (23.5 in.) x 54cm (21 in.), this is the largest LEGO Art Masterpiece set released (not counting the World Map), and transforms one of the world’s most iconic paintings into a three-dimensional LEGO interpretation that will delight art enthusiasts.

Created in collaboration with Belvedere Palace, where the original painting is permanently displayed, the set faithfully recreates Klimt’s signature style using layered textures and intricate details.

For those of you unaware of the significance of The Kiss, here’s a bit about the painter. Gustav Klimt was an Austrian Symbolist painter and prominent leader of the Vienna Secession movement, a radical group of artists who broke away from the traditional, rigid academic art of the late 19th century. He was instrumental in bridging the gap between traditional historicist painting and modern abstraction, famously rejecting conservative societal norms, choosing instead to explore themes of intimacy, human psychology, and the female form in his works, which evolved as he developed his craft.

Painted between 1907 and 1908, The Kiss stands as the crowning achievement of Klimt’s “Golden Phase,” a period heavily inspired by his travels to Ravenna, Italy, where he was captivated by Byzantine glass mosaics. The masterpiece depicts two lovers entwined in a shimmering, universal embrace on the edge of a flower-strewn meadow, their bodies cloaked in elaborate robes adorned with gold leaf, silver, and platinum. The painting is considered a timeless icon of human connection and romance, and is one of the leading visions of Modern Art.

To give you more context into just how highly regarded Gustav Klimt’s works are by art collectors, Portrait of Elisabeth Lederer painted 1914–1916 smashed records when it was auctioned by Sotheby’s in late 2025, with the hammer falling at US$236.4 million, making it the second most expensive painting ever sold. I enjoy watching auction videos online, and this is one of my favourites ever.

The LEGO model re-imagines The Kiss, using a massive pool of golden elements, with clever parts usage to create decorated circles, spirals, flowers, metallic gold elements all of which come together to depict the iconic embracing couple in tactile form.

As someone who appreciates Art and has quite an extensive collection of LEGO Art sets, I never thought LEGO would attempt a Klimt, and I’m really glad that this is becoming a reality, and can’t wait to put my set together, as I think this looks absolutely stunning.

Speaking about the design process, Milan Madge, Master Model Designer at the LEGO Group, said: “Recreating Klimt’s The Kiss in LEGO bricks was a unique creative challenge, requiring us to capture its rich textures, golden tones, and intricate detail while honouring the original masterpiece. By combining golden LEGO elements with specially decorated pieces, we were able to recreate the artwork’s distinctive shades and textures in a building experience that celebrates its extraordinary beauty.”

To accompany the launch, the LEGO Group has produced a podcast episode featuring Master Model Designer Milan Madge and Stephanie Auer, Curator of 19th- and 20th-Century Art at the Belvedere Museum.
