Kriminalgericht, Turmstrasse, Moabit, Berlin, IMAGO / Schöning

A man was charged yesterday at the Kriminalgericht Moabit on 22 counts of sexually assaulting 14 women and filming the acts. Video evidence suggests he attacked as many as 58 victims, 10 of whom have still not been identified.

The suspect lured the women on online dating platforms. Prosecutors state that “the accused is alleged to have sedated the women using various sleeping tablets in combination with alcohol and subsequently raped them.” He’s believed to be part of a ring of abusers in a Telegram group called ‘German Driving School’, which targeted Chinese women living in Europe.

According to prosecutors, the victims who spoke to investigators could not recall the assault and “only learned of them after the videos of the offences were discovered”.

The crime came to light when police from Lower Saxony were investigating similar allegations in 2025 against a man – who was since died – who was in contact with the Berlin suspect online. The tip led to a search of the man’s flat in Friedrichsfelde, in which Berlin police unearthed a cache of digital files.

Of course, it’s not the first time such organised assaults have happened in Germany – not even the first time this year. In Berlin and Munich in 2026, there have been serial sexual assault cases of drugged women that were captured on camera.

During one such case in April, Munich judge Markus Koppenleitner said, “[Gisèle] Pelicot is not an isolated case.”

According to a recent UK investigation, such cases are part of an organised and “truly international network” of drug-facilitated rapes. The Berlin man, a 68-year-old electrician who has not been named, has been in police custody since March. He has not yet responded to the charges against him.
