July 21 – The Danish FA, DBU, have not yet signed a letter of support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who is running for re-election next year.

FIFA, through its member associations division, it is understood, is exerting heavy pressure on federations to back Infantino, but Danish media Campo report that the DBU to date have refused to support the football supremo.

“The DBU board has not yet taken a position on Gianni Infantino’s candidacy and has therefore not signed any letter of support. As you know, we were one of the very, very few countries that did not support Infantino in 2023,” said the Danish FA in a statement.

Previously, The Guardian reported that Infantino enjoys the support of 200 member associations, but that there are still a few outliers in Europe who don’t want to throw their weight behind the FIFA President. England have backed Infantino. Germany are yet to take a decision but it is expected that the DFB will support the incumbent FIFA boss.

In 2016, Infantino came to power to succeed Sepp Blatter and promised a new FIFA. Instead, he became power hungry and threw any reform overboard. The FIFA statutes limited the President to three four-year terms, but if Infantino gets re-elected, he will overstay.

The FIFA Presidential elections take place at the 2027 FIFA Congress in Rabat, Morocco.
