The X-Files first aired in 1993 and left a lasting mark on the mystery genre. That’s why, three decades later, a LEGO Ideas set based on The X-Files is arriving on August 1, 2026, capturing many familiar moments from the TV series. Its 1,478 pieces recreate Mulder’s basement office as well as a dense, dark forest with a UFO hovering above it. The RRP is $199.99 / £179.99 / €199.99, and right at launch you’ll get LEGO 40896 Scully’s Lab as a Gift with Purchase.

Iconic to the X-Files series are of course the characters, eight of whom are included among the minifigures in the set. Naturally these include FBI agents Scully and Mulder, but also a “grey alien and figures from the epiosde The Host.

The images give you a closer look at the various areas of the LEGO X-Files set. Underground is Mulder’s office, packed with references to different episodes of the series. One well-known example is the “I Want to Believe” poster.

Above the office lies the forest, represented by five conifers, through which the minifigures can prowl in search of answers to their questions. This level is removable to make it easier to reach the office below.

The transparent stand lets you have the black UFO fly above the scene and recreate an abduction.

Comparison with the LEGO Ideas Submission

As with all LEGO Ideas sets, the official set now launching in August traces back to a fan submission, created there by user WetWired for the 90s Nostalgia Challenge. During the finalization process, the layout was kept exactly the same, with the office underground and the UFO hovering above the firs. The footprint has become a bit smaller overall, but no details were lost in the process – the office is just more densely packed now.
