“Stop”: fines introduced for walking on the ice of the Daugava

The municipal police have already developed a plan to monitor people who attempt to cross the river. This decision was voted on by all committee members.

The committee meeting was convened after information about the situation on the ice of the Daugava appeared in the media.

As reported, the ban on movement on the Daugava in the center of Riga was previously lifted, but the prohibition on being on the ice within 50 meters of the bridges, where the ice is less stable, remained in effect.

A warning or a fine of up to 100 euros may be imposed for being on the ice during the ban.
