A newly permitted area for outdoor music events has been approved in the Gleisdreieck Park in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. This new location will allow event organisers to set up legally permitted events on short notice.

The move comes with the stipulation that the events must be organised on a non-commercial basis and must therefore have free entry. The goal is to promote more accessible cultural events in the city.

Organisers will now be able to register their events just 24-72 hours before their planned start. Events are permitted daily and may run until 10 pm. The initiative was largely backed by the Clubcommission, who have pushed for clearer protections and regulations around temporary outdoor events as part of their Free Open Airs Berlin initiative.

The new venue is located near the management building in the park and was chosen due to its already existing surrounding infrastructure. This includes first-aid amenities, toilets, emergency escape routes, a kiosk and easy access to public transportation.

Officials will continue to monitor events in the area as they decide how the program will develop in the coming months. The initial reaction to this news has been positive as the arts scene in Berlin continues to crave more grassroots events for which the capital has been known.
